As our good friends and/or avid readers know, Bellacozy and Holdfast love - and I mean a bloody lot - Dusan Makavejev's masterpiece SWEET MOVIE. I posted before regarding one of the protagonists, Miss Canada played by the lovely Carole Laure. There are millions of fascinating nuances to Sweet Movie, and the film could very well have an entire blog on its own. One detail I will devote to this post, and that is the character of El Macho, a Mexican singer-superstar doing an European tour. He is decked in beautiful jeweled garments, a magnificent cape, and a healthy slab of glittery makeup over his eyes. He is surrounded everywhere he goes by a crowd of cheering fans, and he sings the catchiest tune...
Now, if you didn't make it out yourself, Marlis (Holdfast) and I (Bellacozy) noticed a stunning connection between the vocal stylings of the great El Macho and those of one of our favorite musicians, Devendra Banhart. We would love to get in touch with Mr Banhart to express to him how much we would slobber over his doing a tribute version, but as you may deduce from your knowledge of the musician, or by visiting his website, he is the artsy-fartsiest of all the indie blokes, and provides no way of contacting him. He doesn't seem like the type to regularily check his email or facebook, and could very well be anywhere in the world doing almost anything you could imagine.
If anyone knows the whereabouts of Mr Banhart, we would love to get in touch with him, however many degrees of separation it takes. He just needs to have this information, so go ahead and work your magic, internet, if you would.
